Practitioner Bio

As a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (P.M.H.N.P.-B.C.), Latane Flanagan is licensed to practice in Virginia. Native to Central Virginia, she began her healthcare journey at Virginia Commonwealth University, gaining initial exposure to healthcare in Forensic Pathology and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2005. She later graduated magna cum laude from nursing school in 2020. As a Registered Nurse, she served different inpatient populations at both Virginia Commonwealth University and University of Virginia hospitals.

Latane holds a Master's of Science in Nursing, from Old Dominion University (O.D.U.), specializing in psychiatric mental health nursing. She was an ANEW Scholar, maintained a 3.8 GPA and was honored with the Lettie P. Whitehead and Jordan and Carol Levitin Nursing Scholarship. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Advanced Practice Nursing, through Old Dominion University, with research focused on sleep and well-being.

Latane holds certifications in Brainspotting psychotherapy, C-TIER telehealth, Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), and Triple-P parenting. Her clinical background spans both inpatient and outpatient settings, including work in a substance use treatment clinic where she supported individuals and families navigating complex emotional and behavioral challenges.

She is an active member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, and O.D.U.'s Community Care Partnership. Her educational journey has been shaped by the mentorship of Dr. Stuart Flanagan, Professor Emeritus at The College of William and Mary. Latane blends evidence-based practice with empathy and insight, delivering compassionate, high-quality care to every patient.

Outside of her clinical work, Latane enjoys running, yoga, gardening, cooking, exploring National Parks, and attending sporting events. She values the support of her family and friends but above all, cherishes time with her young son. Latane believes in the healing power of play, laughter, and nature.

At Wayside Psychiatry & Wellness, we believe healing is not the absence of struggle but the courage to recognize it. Let us be a rest stop on your journey - a place where wellness can take root. Please reach out with questions or concerns, when you are ready.
